WHY, in Birchwood, have green recycling bins only been issued to residents living on privately built housing estates?

Those living in New Town houses, either rented or bought under the right to buy scheme, have not been issued with these bins.

The borough council said its criteria for selection is as follows: Firstly, that it did a survey of all households and found that residents in streets that didn't place their blue bin out for the waste paper collection wouldn't qualify for a green bin at this stage.

Not everyone fills their blue bin every month; therefore they don't all put it out for collection until such a time as it needs emptying.

Is it just a coincidence that it's only residents from privately built areas of Birchwood that always put their blue bin out for collection then?

I don't think so, and neither do a lot of other residents in Birchwood.

Secondly, that they were issued only to properties that had gardens.

Are they trying to tell me that New Town forgot to add the gardens when they built the houses 28 years ago?

Like many other people who live in New Town properties, I enjoy working in my garden as much as anyone in privately built areas.

Some residents in privately built areas aren't interested in gardening and don't use the green bin at all.

It is blatantly obvious that this is a case of discrimination between residents of New Town properties and residents of privately built properties.

I am all in favour of WBC trying to encourage recycling, but I don't think it has done its homework properly.

You only have to look at the recycling bays by Birchwood Shopping Centre to see what I mean.

The bins are always overflowing due to them not being emptied often enough and also there is no control over the mindless minority who choose to dispose of non-recyclable materials there as well.

Warrington Borough Council has created a monster it can't control.
