BRIAN Simpson protests too much and again contradicts himself.
He first says he was elected in June 2004, but then, being fourth on the list, says he was not elected.
The inescapable fact is he was not elected.
Had Terry Wynn, (the retiring MEP), changed party allegiance, he would have retained his seat, belying Mr Simpson's implication that the seat necessarily belongs to the party rather than the individual.
I have no dislike of Mr Simpson, but he should not confuse the EU with Europe.
I love many things European, but I do dislike the EU and would rather it did not govern us - not least because of the immense cost.
Warrington families each pay more than £800 a year in additional food costs because of the EU, and with contributions from the Exchequer, the total is more than £60 million a day.
To put that in perspective, a new hospital could be built every other day, or income tax cut by seven pence in the pound.
Rather than engaging in sterile debate about the party list system, perhaps Mr Simpson would explain why he believes the EU is of the slightest benefit and why we couldn't better run our lives without his assistance and that of his fellow MEPs.
