In our house we try to recycle as much as possible. Unfortunately because of the council's attitude towards recycling this is not possible.

Seeing as Warrington is home to the UK's largest aluminium can recycling plant you think there might be an organised collection of both aluminium and steel (separated after collection by magnet, one sent to British Steel, the other to Alcan.) This would certainly lower the amount of rubbish we produce.

Think about how much aluminium and steel canned food we get through a week.

This would be far more effective at reducing waste than this paper recycling scheme and maybe a similar paper-recycling scheme.

I've visited a number of towns and seen some superb recycling schemes, which could be implemented in Warrington.

One of the best I've seen was in Caerdydd, Cardiff, where each household had various bins for recycling and in the city, the street furniture was made out of recycled items, with segregated bins at the bottom for paper, metal, glass, plastic and general waste.

In our household we have one member who is incontinent and I contacted the borough council regarding its clinical waste policy as advertised on its website and was told that I should just put the incontinence products into the normal bin as the home clinical waste collection no longer operates.

With this new policy on not emptying open bins it won't be long before we end up with stockpiles of incontinence pads that need collecting and then the only place we will be able to dump them is in the tip. But how do we get them there without a car?

In addition to this we have a small, single person's bin. We have requested numerous times to have it upgraded to a similar size bin, like the others on the street, but have always been told that as only four people live in the house we are only entitled to a small bin.
