I WOULD like to suggest a working day out for the parks department of Warrington Borough Council.

They do not have to travel very far - only an hour's drive to the market town of Oswestry where they will find in the centre of the town the most wonderful display of flowers, with hanging baskets, colourful display stands in the pedestrianised streets and outside the market hall. There are magnificent, vivid flowerbeds in the park, with even flowers bordering the public tennis courts (oops, sorry, what are they?).

It was a pleasure and a delight to the eye to wander around the town and it puts Warrington to shame.

By comparison, we look like a town with no soul, nothing to lift the spirits.

If you were to walk around Bank Park you would be saddened to see the disgraceful sight of neglected rose beds, which look as though they haven't been attended to for years.

If the Warrington parks department management do visit Oswestry, perhaps they could meet with their staff to discover how they regularly achieve their award-winning displays, as it is clearly obvious that Warrington has lost both the expertise and the will.

Let 2007 see the completion of the current developments and the beginning of some heart and pride back in the town.
