I NOTE your article in the Warrington Guardian online with the headline ‘cycling commitment despite fewer people cycling weekly in Warrington’.
Cycling and walking is a passion of mine, so much so that over the past few months, I have written to and emailed Charlotte Nicholls MP in relation to the state of paths for said subject.
The paths for Howley Quay to Wharf Street are a disgrace. Nature is claiming them back, and they are just passable in places in single file.
These paths were enhanced as part of the flood defence scheme, but as nobody seems contracted to look after them, I ask myself what was the point in undertaking this work.
I have reported the same issues along the Trans Pennine Trail from Knutsford Road swing bridge, to the swing bridge in Stockton Heath.
To make matters worse with the Trans Pennine trail, this was part of the route for Warrington Running Festival at the weekend – a great day to showcase our town.
Unfortunately, and again, the route is being claimed by overgrowing vegetation and hindered the event at this juncture.
I have asked specifically as to why build these paths if no contract is put in place to maintain them.
