ANYONE who worked at Memory Lane Cakes, as I did for 14 years, will tell you that it was all about the people.

It was a family, and like any family, it could be warm and welcoming, difficult and challenging, laughter and tears, arguments had, then forgotten.

It would take you down if you got too big, but lift you up when you were down, friends wrapping their arms around you to give support when needed.

Lifelong friendships were created and relationships formed – some which lasted a lifetime, and others not so long.

Countless Warrington families had people that worked there and prospered from it.

It helped to connect the town – especially around Whitecross and Bewsey, as it was almost impossible to be in Warrington without bumping into a workmate.

The values of some of its great people, such as Ron Hughes, Len Spencer, Jag Singh, Jimmy Kerwick and Brian Hughes, still live on in those who knew them – fair, honest, passionate and committed.

Memory Lane – yes, it is still family.
