I SEE Warrington Borough Council is making unwelcome headlines again (Warrington Guardian, September 5), this time for a forecasted £29million overspend for the year.
How on earth does the council spend that much more than its budget?
In any other business, you would be out on your ear if you made that sort of mistake.
We constantly hear about the mismanagement of the Tory government, and that is without a doubt true, but it is not just a Tory disease.
This Labour council has made a mess of Warrington’s finances, and it just looks to deflect the blame onto everyone else.
I read that it aims to reduce that debt through redundancies in the next few months – well good luck, because that is an enormous hole to fill.
I do not see other authorities with this sort of problem, so what is different about Warrington?
The people of this town just want good public services, delivered efficiently and on time with the minimum of fuss.
The council should keep that in mind, because as it stands, no doubt we will be counting the cost when it comes to our council tax bill come the spring – another rise when all our other bills and services are going up.
Fingers crossed, one day Warrington Borough Council gets its house in order, but I won’t hold my breath.
