I HAVE read that the Government is offering Cheshire East, Cheshire West Chester, and Warrington councils the opportunity to detach themselves from Government powers by voting for devolution (Warrington Guardian, August 15)
Are these people real?
Cheshire East is in debt. Warrington is in debt. Cheshire West is not as badly in debt as the other two, but nevertheless.
These councils need a firm grip on their finances from an outside body
We can see the financial mess they have made already. We do not need any more.

I READ with interest the article on possible devolution.
Surely the one thing we do not need is yet another layer of government.
We have central Government, we have the council, some have parish councils, and now we would likely have a mayor’s office, with all the subsequent staffing that would go alongside it.
Surely just give areas like Warrington and Cheshire the money they need and deserve without more bureaucracy.
