REFERRING to recent correspondence regarding Parkside 2010 and the proposed Parkside Strategic Road Freight Interchange (SRFI). The Parkside developer, Astral Developments, admits that it would generate in excess of three million HGV movements per year.

That's three million more HGVs along the M6, M62, East Lancs Road and minor roads. Parkside would paralyse our local infrastructure, causing misery for thousands of residents, as well as impacting on existing businesses locally and across the north west.

You might have seen the recent Parkside 2010 fact sheets that were also sent out to our councillors.

Astral pays for the Parkside 2010 public relations company, Connect.

I agree with Mr Bryce that these fact sheets' were little more than a cynical ploy to mislead residents into supporting its massively inappropriate scheme.

Nowhere on these fact sheets' does it state that Parkside 2010 was created by and is funded by the developer, Astral.

In reality, these fact sheets' were light on facts, but heavy on the same old Astral spin.

Parkside 2010 is simply pro-SRFI because it is Astral and is only looking out for its own interests, and not those of residents, businesses or any other organisation.

The Parkside Action Group (PAG) is funded entirely by donations from residents, parish councils, resident groups and businesses which have studied the plans and have decided to oppose the Parkside SRFI.

It is PAG that represents the interests of residents and local businesses and not 2010, which has the vested interests of Astral as a primary objective.

PAG is in the middle of taking Connect Public Affairs, the Astral-funded public relations firm responsible for these fact sheets', to its regulatory body, the Association of Professional Political Consultants (APPC).

If you feel that Connect has failed to fully reveal that Parkside 2010 is really Astral in disguise or that the information in its fact sheets' was misleading, then you need to complain to its regulatory body the Association of Professional Political Consultants (APPC) by e-mail to mary.shearer@clara.co.uk (Mary Shearer) or write to the Association of Professional Political Consultants (APPC), c/o Connect Public Affairs, Millbank Tower, London. SW1P 4QP.

You might notice that the APPC has the same address as Connect; PAG is also inquiring into this matter.

Residents need to be aware that we are up against a developer intent on building Europe's biggest freight terminal on 272 hectares, or 640 football pitches, of our green belt at and around Parkside, which would only guarantee massive job relocation not creation, unprecedented congestion, danger and pollution for thousands of residents.
