WHEN are parents going to be held responsible for what their children get up to?
I was upset to read in the Warrington Guardian of a little girl who had her head cut open by a golf ball; it could have killed her.
Golf clubs and golf balls are not toys and are dangerous weapons in the hands of irresponsible children. It is against the law to play golf where children are playing, but these people seem to think if they see a bit of green space they can play on it, and ignore the consequences.
If people were made to pay for the damage caused by their children, perhaps they would keep a closer eye on what they are doing.
The same thing almost happened to me and I am a pensioner.
I had just come into the house when I heard a crash and found my shed window had been smashed to pieces. The golf ball was still in the shed and had been travelling at such a speed it had torn straight through the curtain as well.
If I had still been out there it could have hit me, or if the ball had fallen sooner there was a two-year-old playing in the garden next door.
I went out to the park in Wroxham Road, and found the offending youths still there. Two boys and three girls, having lost their golf ball, were whacking bricks, bottles, and anything they could find over the community centre roof. They denied the golf club was theirs, but after going to the police station to report the incident, on my return I saw the youth going home on his bike with the golf club slung over his shoulder.
Come on parents, do not let your children out with golf clubs before someone else is seriously hurt or killed.
