IN response to Steph Davies letter, 'Keep your speed down', June 29 I am really sorry to hear that your cat was killed on the dangerous piece of road and that the driver concerned could not even take her to the vets nearby. As heartening as it is to hear that a kind person helped when they found your pet, it hardly makes up for the indifference of some of the motorists on our roads.

In response to your direction question, yes, there are measures currently in place for this stretch of road.

Last January, in response to residents' concerns about the use of the nearby traffic island and the speed of the motorists in this area, I requested that the highways department repaint road markings in this area, including the slow marking on the road approaching Mayfair Close. I received confirmation on January 24 that this had been done.

In March, following a residents' petition handed to me, I raised concerns regarding speeding motorists along local roads and the rat run between Lingley Green Avenue and Lingley Road Avenue at the police community action meeting where the issue was then taken away by the police as a CAM priority. Since that meeting, funding has been obtained to buy a hand held speed gun, residents have volunteered and been identified and trained to use this equipment and will soon be out and about in this area monitoring traffic and informing offenders as required. This is an ongoing initiative. If anyone wishes to volunteer to help alert drivers of the impact they are having on our community then contact Great Sankey community action team on 0845 458 6385.

More recently Councillor Roy Smith and I visited Mayfair Close for a 'Down Your Way' session.

We did not manage to visit all homes as 'rain stopped play' but apart from the Wainhomes fence issue, the main concern was the traffic dangers at the junction of Mayfair Close with Park Road. We are currently contacting highways to ask them to meet us on site to help identify measures that can be taken to make this area safer.

Clr Smith and I echo your call to all motorists in all residential areas to slow down and have some consideration for the neighbourhoods they are passing through.
