I REFER to your article regarding the demise of Bridge Street in the town centre.
The town centre is becoming a ghost town. As you stated, there are so many shop premises vacant and advertised to let. On top of this, there are too many charity shops in the town centre and, although I appreciate these shops are a good cause for their chosen charity, is it what the public really want?
What the public want is choice, value and comfort.
I remember Golden Square being built in 1978/79 and it hasn't lasted 30 years.
If this council want to bring people into the town centre, then they really want to get their thinking caps on because at the moment they are failing drastically. One idea would be to give shoppers sufficient and affordable, if not free, parking to encourage them to shop.
This town is in reverse gear.
