Have I read it right in last week's Guardian?

Does the Primary Care Trust seriously think that it can bring about massive change without consulting the GPs?

I fail to see how this will be successful if it does not include the main players in the development of such a scheme.

I can understand the GPs' concerns, having recently retired from the NHS after almost 40 years of service and seen what is necessary if you are to bring hearts and minds with you.

This is not the way to do business, but a guaranteed way of causing unnecessary anger and confusion.

All parties have to be signed up to these proposals, especially the doctors, who will have a massive part to play.

The PCT should grasp this opportunity and listen to the rumblings, before a stand-off situation arises.

Yes, patients have a big responsibility, but I would say that doctors have an even bigger one, seeing as they will be responsible, along with various health service staff, for providing all health care, especially for people who have chronic diseases and those who may find it difficult to access healthcare in this new 21st century way.

Let us hope the PCT listens.
