HAVING lived in the Newton area for most of my life, I find it a little odd that the community should have such objection towards the Parkside development site.

Originally this area was, as the name suggests, at the side of Newton Park. In the early 60s the site was developed into Parkside Colliery, which created jobs for hundreds of people over a long period.

We now have a bid to regenerate the site and in the process create hundreds if not thousands of jobs which can only be great for the area. However, as always, the British public do not like change and will do all within their power to prevent the development.

We need to stand back and look at what is on offer here. Do we honestly feel that the developer will create an eyesore, do we think that the developer will not create a site that will fall into place with the surroundings and are we really against the chance of creating jobs and monetary income for the area?

Change will arrive no matter what the general public feel, so why not give the area a chance and aim our concerns towards more productive complaints because, after all, if we all refused to accept development, then the town as we know it wouldn't be here.
