I am aware that Rixton and Glazebrook Parish Council is totally opposed to the building of the new Scout hut on the site of the old hut in Hollins Green Village. It is correct that the recreation ground has been given village green status, with the exception of the footprint of the old Scout hut, which was razed to the ground by an arson attack. Consequently, the village green excuse is just a red herring.

As the Scout hut was the only facility for the 10- to 14-year-olds in the area, I would welcome the new hut, and hope the planners approve the application, especially in the centenary of the Scouting movement. It would also show that they are not allowing the vandals who burned the hut to win.
