WARRINGTON Wolves’ first pre-season friendly of 2025 has now been confirmed.
As they did before the 2024 campaign started, The Wire will face neighbours Widnes Vikings at The Halliwell Jones Stadium in their first on-field test of the new year.
The game will take place on Friday, January 17 with a 7.30pm kick off and is expected to be the first of two friendlies Sam Burgess’ side will play ahead of the 2025 season, with the other being Toby King’s Testimonial match, details for which are yet to be confirmed.
The two rivals played out an entertaining pre-season contest earlier this year, with a largely youthful Wire side running out 46-40 winners.
Warrington have also announced that their dual-registration agreement with the Vikings will continue in 2025.
Players such as Max Wood, Lucas Green and Zac Bardsley-Rowe all spent time with Widnes during their Championship campaign in 2024 and director of rugby Gary Chambers is delighted the club’s young players will continue to have the chance to play regularly at a high level again in the coming season.
“We’re looking forward to working with Allan Coleman and the team at Widnes again next season,” he said.
“This partnership will benefit both clubs massively and allows some of our younger players that opportunity to gain valuable first team experience in a competitive league.”
