ANOTHER Warrington Wolves player has been selected for post-season international fixtures.

Prop Joe Philbin has been named in an extended Ireland training squad for their upcoming international match against Scotland, which takes place in Gateshead on October 27.

The Warrington-born 29-year-old won the last of his three Ireland caps during the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, when he came off the bench to score a try in his side’s victory over Wales.

Now, though, he is in contention to feature again ahead of the squad being trimmed down next week having been named alongside several other established Super League players.

Philbin’s selection takes the number of Wire players involved in post-season international fixtures to eight after five of his teammates – George Williams, Matty Ashton, John Bateman, Ben Currie and Danny Walker – were named in the England squad for their Test series against Samoa while Rodrick Tai and new signing Dan Russell will be involved in Papua New Guinea’s Pacific Championships campaign.

Joining Philbin in the Ireland squad will be five of his former Warrington teammates – George King, Greg Minikin, Keanan Brand, Pat Moran and Riley Dean – as well as Warrington-born former Crosfields half-back Tom Ashurst, who made his full Ireland debut in their win over the Netherlands last month.
