FIVE members of Warrington Wolves’ 2024 squad have been named in the final England selection for the upcoming Test series against Samoa.
It means that, alongside Super League champions Wigan Warriors, The Wire are the joint-most represented club in the 24-man party named by head coach Shaun Wane.
Half-back George Williams will skipper the side for Test matches at Wigan’s Brick Community Stadium on Sunday, October 27, and Headingley in Leeds on Saturday, November 2.
He will be joined by club teammates Matty Ashton, Ben Currie and Danny Walker in the squad while second-rower John Bateman, who will rejoin NRL side Wests Tigers after his short-term deal with Warrington finished, is also in the squad.
There is no place for prop James Harrison, who had been named in the extended 31-man training squad for the series but does not make the final cut.
In all, seven Super League clubs and five NRL sides are represented in Wane’s squad, with the head coach urging fans to turn out in force to get behind his side in both games.
“I’m really excited by the squad I’ve been able to pick ahead of our two-game Test Series against Samoa,” he said.
“We know it’s going to be a tough test against the Samoans and there is already a lot of history between us from the Rugby League World Cup two years ago.
“All of the players have picked based on their form over the last 12 months whether that be in the Betfred Super League or Down Under in the NRL and I’m confident heading into next week’s opener in Wigan.
“Following on from an impressive crowd at Old Trafford this past weekend, I am hoping the Rugby League fans come out in numbers at both Wigan and Leeds and get behind England.”
There are two uncapped players in Wane's squad, both of whom play for Wigan - Super League's newly-crowned Young Player of the Year Junior Nsemba and the competition's leading tryscorer Liam Marshall.
