TODAY’S Super League Grand Final may be a tough watch for everyone in these parts given how close Warrington Wolves were to being one of the teams involved.

However, Warrington as a town will be represented at Old Trafford today by way of one of the players involved.

Orford lad Tom Forber is in contention to feature in the Wigan Warriors side looking to defend its Super League crown against Hull KR today having featured from the interchange bench in recent weeks.

The 21-year-old hooker played some of his junior rugby league at Rylands Sharks before moving on to St Helens club Blackbrook, from whom he joined the Wigan academy system.

Forber has played 10 games for the Warriors this season and scored his first Super League try during their Round 24 win at Catalans Dragons in August.

There are also three former Wire players likely to be involved, with Jake Wardle and Peta Hiku set to be direct opposites to each other in the centres.

Wardle shone in a loan spell with Warrington from Huddersfield Giants towards the end of the 2022 season, scoring six tries in 11 games before joining Wigan on a permanent deal ahead of the 2023 campaign.

Since arriving at the Brick Community Stadium, the 25-year-old has been named in the Super League Dream Team in each of the past two years.

Hiku’s time at The Halliwell Jones Stadium was equally as short and sweet, scoring 10 tries in 11 games having arrived midway through the 2017 season.

However, his stay was cut short as he returned to his native New Zealand for family reasons, going on to star in the NRL for New Zealand Warriors and North Queensland Cowboys before returning to Super League with the Robins this year.

His impact has been excellent, scoring 16 tries in 31 appearances to date including one at his former home ground during Rovers’ 22-4 win over The Wire in Round 20.

Also in contention to feature for Willie Peters’ side is former Warrington prop George King – the older brother of current Wire centre Toby.

Having come through the Warrington academy alongside his brother, the front-rower made 95 appearances for the club before spending the 2019 season at Wakefield Trinity.

He then joined Hull KR the following year and has been there ever since, although he is to leave the club at the end of the year and is expected to join hometown club Huddersfield Giants.
