THE first two members of Warrington Wolves' 2025 squad to end this year with international selection have been confirmed.
Rodrick Tai and incoming signing Dan Russell have been named in the Papua New Guinea squad for the Pacific Championship tournament involving themselves, Australia, New Zealand, Tonga, Samoa and the Cook Islands.
The Kumuls are in the second-tier Pacific Bowl, starting their campaign against Fiji in Suva on Saturday, October 19, before returning to Port Moresby to take on the Cook Islands on Sunday, November 3.
The Fiji game will be shown live on Sky Sports, with coverage starting at 9.10am on Sky Sports Mix.
Tai and Russell both helped PNG win the Pacific Bowl in its inaugural year last year before Tai moved to the UK to join The Wire, where he established himself as first-choice at right centre by scoring nine tries in 23 appearances.
This year, however, promotion and relegation between the two tiers will be on offer with whoever emerges on top in the PNG-Fiji-Cook Islands round-robin facing the bottom-placed side in the Australia-NZ-Tonga group for a place in the top tier.
Second-rower Russell's signing on a two-year deal was confirmed earlier this week and he will make the move to England once his Kumuls commitments are complete.
Tai is joined in the squad by six other players who turned out in Super League this year as Leigh Leopards duo Lachlan Lam and Edwin Ipape, Castleford Tigers pair Liam Horne and Sylvester Namo, Salford Red Devils' Nene Macdonald and Leeds Rhinos' Rhyse Martin are also named.
