WARRINGTON Wolves fans can expect at least one change to the team for Friday’s match against Leigh Leopards.

Head coach Sam Burgess is keen to see second-rower Lachlan Fitzgibbon back in action.

And James Harrison, a replacement prop off the bench in the 28-6 win at Castleford Tigers, could be the man who makes way for him.

“Maybe Jimmy Harrison could be out for a week but I’ll wait to see how that unfolds over the next day or two,” said Burgess.

“He’s got a lower leg injury, it’s nothing too bad, but we probably don’t want to risk him.

“He finished the game at the weekend, so it’s nothing drastic but we’ve just got to be careful with it.”

Burgess added: “Lachlan Fitzgibbon is up for contention this week.

“It’s about time we got him out there. He’s been training well for the last couple of weeks so he’ll more than likely play this week, whether I use him off the bench I don’t know yet.

“It’s not about what we’ve been missing as a team while he’s been absent, because whenever somebody comes in for a spot they bring their own personality, but Lachlan’s an experienced player, he’s got great talk on the field and great leadership, so we value that when he brings that.

“But we just want him to get through a game and start playing a bit of consistent rugby again because it’s been a frustrating period for him.

“We want him to find some fluidity in his game and hopefully he gets through alright this week because we imagine it’s going to be a physical game on Friday night.”

Fitzgibbon, who joined The Wire from Newcastle Knights ahead of the 2024 campaign, has spent time on the sidelines recovering from a shoulder injury he sustained in the win against Huddersfield Giants last month.

That was his comeback game from minor back surgery after his previous outing against Wigan Warriors at Wembley in the Challenge Cup Final on June 8.
