SAM Burgess has decided to extend his time as Warrington Wolves head coach.

Having already been contracted to the club until the end of the 2025 campaign, The Wire have now confirmed they have agreed a 12-month extension with the former England international.

As such, he will now be at The Halliwell Jones Stadium until the end of the 2026 season.

Burgess' time in charge has been an overwhelming success to date, with The Wire currently top of the Super League table while they also reached their first Challenge Cup Final since 2019 earlier this year before losing to Wigan Warriors at Wembley.

And all things considered, he was happy to extend his stay.

“It’s great to extend my time at the club," he said.

“I love the town and the community and both me and my family are really enjoying our time here.

"The support from the board has been fantastic and the fans have been brilliant with me.

“We’re heading in the right direction and I felt two years wasn’t enough and a third gives us more scope to plan with what we’re building.”

Club chief executive Karl Fitzpatrick hailed Burgess as "the best young coach in the game" in reacting to news that Burgess would be sticking around.

And he reaffirmed the belief the board had when taking a chance on handing him his first senior head coaching rule - the belief that he is equipped to bring special times to The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

“We are delighted to have secured Sam for a further 12 months.

“At a fans event at the beginning of the season, having seen in the preseason how Sam operated, I promised our supporters that we would have a team this town and community can be proud of. It’s fair to say he has absolutely delivered on that.

“I think we’ve got the best and most sought-after young coach in the game.

"The foundations he and his team are laying will hopefully set us up for something special for a long time.”
