WARRINGTON Wolves have confirmed that, as opposed to arriving in time for next season, Luke Yates will join the club immediately.

Terms have been agreed for the Australian forward to join The Wire in advance of the two-year deal he had signed from next year, with Huddersfield confirming they had accepted "an undisclosed fee" to transfer Yates' registration.

Yates will train with his new teammates for the first time on Tuesday and is available to make his debut at St Helens on Friday.

“I’m really excited for the challenge,” said the 29-year-old, who will wear squad number 41.

“The opportunity came up to head over to Warrington early and I want to play my part now in contributing to what can hopefully be a successful end to the season for the club.

“To have the opportunity to work with and learn from Sam [Burgess] is massive for me.

“There’s a great roster here and I’m excited now to get amongst it and pull on the Warrington jersey.”

Yates’ early arrival boosts a forward pack that is currently without back-rower Lachlan Fitzgibbon due to a shoulder injury, with Jordy Crowther also struggling having aggravated an ankle injury against Leeds Rhinos last week.

His last game for Huddersfield, whom he joined in 2021 following spells with Salford Red Devils and London Broncos in Super League, came against Leigh Leopards on Sunday. He made 42 tackles and ran for 139 metres with the ball.

He also turned out against his future employers a fortnight ago when The Wire triumphed 48-0 in what was Ian Watson’s last game as Giants head coach.

“I want to thank both sets of directors from the two clubs for facilitating Luke’s early release to Warrington,” director of rugby Gary Chambers said.

“He will be an important player for us for the rest of this season and going forward.”
