WARRINGTON Wolves have moved to tie one of their key assets down to an extended contract.
Winger Matty Ashton has penned fresh terms with the club, with his new long-term deal set to keep him at The Halliwell Jones Stadium until the end of the 2028 season.
The England international's contract with the club still had another two full seasons to run, but it is a move that recognises his importance to the club and one he was only too glad to get done.
“I’m really happy to have secured my future at this great club," he said.
“The club has really looked after me and I want to repay that by bringing success.
“There’s always room to improve and that’s what drives me every day. I feel like I’m doing that each week and I want to kick on further now under Sam (Burgess) and the coaching staff here.”
Since arriving at Warrington in 2020 having shot to prominence in the Championship with Swinton Lions, Ashton's rise has been continuous and impressive.
For the past two seasons, he has been named the club's Player of the Year and has also topped the try-scoring charts in both of those campaigns.
His touchdown against Leeds Rhinos on Thursday night was his 61st for the club in his 88th appearance, and his form has also earned him international recognition.
Having made his England debut last year, Ashton has scored three tries in as many Test matches for his nation.
“It’s great news for the club to secure Matty for the next four years," head coach Burgess said.
“He’s very happy here and he’s only going to grow and get better. He’s a joy to coach and we really enjoy having him at our club.”
