SAM Burgess has confirmed Jordy Crowther's return from injury did not go entirely to plan.
Indeed, the Warrington Wolves head coach confirmed the forward had aggravated the ankle injury he was coming back from during the victory over Leeds Rhinos.
Crowther was playing for the first time since hobbling off during the Challenge Cup Final loss to Wigan Warriors at Wembley last month and came off the bench during the first half.
He was then withdrawn not long into the second half and Burgess confirmed he had suffered a reoccurrence of the same issue.
In better news, Burgess said winger Matty Ashton came through the game unscathed having returned from a back issue.
"Jordy’s aggravated his ankle again," he said.
"He didn’t play too long and it’s always a risk, him re-injuring it again with the way he plays.
"Matty was great and had the same energy. Nobody else makes that tackle on Sam Lisone towards the end – he comes up with so many plays like that for us."
With The Wire already low on numbers thanks to injuries to Toby King, Connor Wrench, Josh Thewlis and Lachlan Fitzgibbon to add to long-term absentees Joe Philbin, Leon Hayes, Wesley Bruines and Luke Thomas, Burgess would have been praying to have come through with minimal damage.
And while a full assessment will be required, they appear to have done so Crowther aside.
"I think we’re pretty good other than Jordy," he said.
"I don’t quite know the full extent yet but I think we’re okay."
Warrington now have a slightly longer eight-day turnaround before their trip to neighbours St Helens in Round 18 next Friday.
