A FORMER Warrington Wolves coach has become embroiled in a row that has sparked fury throughout the wider game of rugby league.

Following the Championship clash between Swinton Lions and Widnes Vikings yesterday, Widnes forward Nick Gregson published a post on social media containing allegations around the behaviour of Lions head coach Alan Kilshaw, who held several coaching positions within The Wire’s reserves and academy set-up between 2006 and 2013.

In it, Gregson alleges a picture of him with a noose around his neck with the caption “bully him” was placed in the Swinton dressing room before the game.

He also alleges the Swinton team were instructed to target his injured shoulder and as such, he sustained another injury he says will end his 2024 season early.

The post sparked outrage on social media, with both clubs releasing statements over the matter.

Widnes have said Gregson has their "full support" on the matter but Swinton's statement says they "refute the accuracy" of the former Wigan forward's allegations.

A Widnes statement read: "The club is 100% behind Nick and is offering him whatever support he needs.

"In view of the now ongoing investigation, the club will be making no further comment."

In response to the allegations, Swinton posted on X yesterday: "Swinton Lions RLFC is aware of serious allegations made by Widnes player Nick Gregson.

"We refute the accuracy of these allegations and we are in contact with the RFL and our solicitors.

"No further comment will be made at this time."

The RFL have opened a full investigation into the matter.
