JOE Philbin is set to miss the Challenge Cup Final, Warrington Wolves head coach Sam Burgess has confirmed.

Having picked up a groin issue during the victory over Catalans Dragons on Saturday, further examination has revealed an adductor injury for the homegrown prop forward.

While he says the severity of the injury is still being discovered, Burgess admitted he is likely to miss the Wembley date with Wigan Warriors next weekend.

"Everyone has pulled through okay except Philbs. He’s no good – he’ll be out for a little bit," he said.

"He’ll probably be no good for Wembley, which is sad.

"We see him around the place and he’s a pretty happy character so he’ll take it in his stride. He’s had a couple of injuries to deal with as he’s an experienced guy.

"I’m sad for him, but he’ll move on.

"We’re still figuring out how severe it is, but he’s probably not going to make the final."

Burgess also confirmed Philbin's fellow middle-unit player Jordy Crowther was fit enough to return for Saturday's Super League clash with the Warriors at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

However, he insisted he was still to make up his mind about the make-up of his team, with Philbin the only fresh injury concern.

"I’m still undecided on Crowther," he said.

"He’s healthy enough to play, so we’ll wait and see."
