GEORGE Williams has been handed a ban that will keep him out of Saturday’s Super League clash with Wigan Warriors.

However, he will be free to lead the Warrington Wolves charge in the following week’s Challenge Cup Final against his former club.

The England captain, who scored one try and assisted the other to inspire a 16-8 win over Catalans Dragons on Saturday, has been charged with Grade B dangerous contact following a second-half incident in the same game.

The charge is for late contact on the passer, with the panel minutes stating Williams “makes contact with an opponent after the ball has been released by an opponent in a vulnerable position which causes flexion to the head, neck or spinal column on an attacking player, which poses an unacceptable risk of injury to that player.”

As such, a one-match penalty notice has been applied, meaning he will not be available to face the defending Super League champions at The Halliwell Jones Stadium in Round 13.

There is better disciplinary news for The Wire in that second-rower Lachlan Fitzgibbon has avoided further punishment following his first-half sin-binning in Perpignan.

The Australian was shown a yellow card by referee Chris Kendall for a high tackle on Dragons full-back Arthur Mourgue, but the panel did not deem the incident worthy of charge.

Catalans winger Tom Davies has also avoided further sanction for the professional foul on Josh Thewlis that saw him spent 10 minutes in the bin.
