OUR Guardian Fan Panel is back to discuss another impressive and memorable Warrington Wolves victory.
The Wire went to France and returned with two valuable Super League points on Saturday, gaining a measure of revenge for the two defeats Catalans Dragons inflicted upon them earlier in the year.
Here’s what panellists Rob Croston and Mark Robinson thought of the game…
ROB CROSTON
WHAT a way to back up securing a trip to Wembley by putting in another performance that showed how far Wire have come in the Sam Burgess era.
Wire have shown their character and determination in recent weeks and have not panicked when defending.
Saturday showed that Wire are not only building as a team, but they are finding new ways to win. Sometimes, you have got to adapt your performances accordingly and Wire certainly did that.
This wasn’t a game for fast, free-flowing rugby – this was a game about taking chances when they are presented to you and making the most of your opportunities.
Wire will be looking to springboard this confidence and resilience into what will be the biggest couple of weeks in the Burgess era so far, and this will give the Wire squad a good indication of what they are about and to see whether the class of 2024 can hit top marks.
With Wembley on the horizon, Wire might be forgiven for being a little more cautious than usual, but this is a massive opportunity for these players and days like this they will be relishing.
It is the week that all Warrington fans circle in their calendars. It will be talked about by the players, the build-up is set to be huge.
There is probably some doubts around Wire fans as to whether they can beat a Wigan side in red-hot form, however this team will believe.
I believe that they can do it, and they won’t take a backward step in trying.
MARK ROBINSON
Think I have watched “Back to the Future” too many times – I thought I was back in 2010/11/12.
Saturday was a total team display. Yes, we had a few errors early on but to still defend in the way they did takes a whole team.
Set after set and Catalan could not break us down – that’s as good as any of the champagne rugby we have played.
Rodrick Tai – what a beast his defence and his ability to get yardage out of our end was awesome, same on the other side from Toby King.
George Williams was doing what George Williams does again and was influential, in fact the whole team was on point.
Hope Joe Philbin is not too bad and I’ve got to give big raps to Chris Satae – he was immense for Catalans and was a real thorn with the minutes he had to put in.
On to next week and I would guess a few to be rested.
