SAM Burgess has confirmed he plans to name an unchanged 17 for Warrington Wolves’ Round Three clash with Castleford Tigers on Friday.
That is despite the return to contention of Jordy Crowther, with the forward available for selection again having completed a one-match suspension.
In his absence, Adam Holroyd started in the second row while Max Wood made his senior debut off the bench, with Ben Currie moving inside to loose forward.
And three days out from the game, Burgess affirmed that he was keen to give those who played against Hull FC another chance to shine.
“We’ll be the same 17 this week,” he said in his pre-match press conference this afternoon.
“Jordan Crowther won’t play – we’re going to give him another week. I thought Max Wood was good on debut – he didn’t let me down but I knew he wouldn’t.
“I love the young guys stepping up and doing the job. They rarely let you down – they have to sharpen their execution up and our right-edge defence will get some attention this week no doubt from Castleford, but it’s great for their learning.
“The only way they’re going to learn is by being exposed to it and I thought they deserved another go to keep their spot.
“It’s great for the club – Danny (Walker) captained the club as a local boy, Leon (Hayes) controlled the team from seven and having him, Adam Holroyd, Connor Wrench and Josh Thewlis on that right edge was fantastic.
“It’s good for now and for our future if younger players beneath them know that if you do your job, you’ll stay in the team.”
