JAMES Harrison has become the latest player to commit his long-term future to Warrington Wolves.

Hot on the heels of his fellow prop Joe Philbin, the 27-year-old has penned an extension to his current contract, which was due to expire at the end of next season.

It means Harrison is now tied to The Wire until the end of 2026, with the club holding an option to extend the deal by a further year.

Having shone in the Championship with Featherstone Rovers, Harrison was snapped up by The Wire ahead of the 2022 campaign, but an ACL injury suffered while playing for the Yorkshiremen delayed his debut until midway through his first campaign at the club.

Since then, however, he has established himself as a key member of the side and his form earned him a senior England debut in last year’s mid-season international against France.

Now under the tutelage of a “hero growing up” in new head coach Sam Burgess, he is aiming to put himself in the fold for further international honours.

“I’m buzzing to have signed a new deal and it was a no-brainer for me,” he said.

“I love it here and love how the club have treated me over the past couple of years.

“I’ve had a really good pre-season. I feel fit, fresh and I’m ready now for the new season.

“Sam was my hero growing up and it’s been really exciting to work with him. It’s the first time I’ve been coached by someone who played in my position which has been great for advice and improving my game.

“I got the England call-up last year and that’s a big aim of mine this year to get back into the international squad.”

In total, Harrison has made 32 appearances in a Wie shirt, scoring five tries – all of which came during last season – while he was also on the scoresheet in Philbin’s Testimonial match against Leigh Leopards on Saturday.

And Burgess is delighted to have his continued presence in the squad and insists he is the type of player he wants at the club.

“Jimmy epitomises what a Wire player looks like. He’s tough, honest and most of all a great guy,” he said.

“It’s another great signing for us and secures our middle unit moving forward.”
