MAX Wood’s move to Warrington Wolves has now been officially confirmed by the club.
Having impressed after being invited to train with the squad through pre-season, the former Wigan Warriors prop forward has been offered a deal to remain with the club.
The Wire have confirmed the 19-year-old has signed a one-year deal at The Halliwell Jones Stadium with the option of a further 12 months.
Long-term contract extensions for two of the club’s younger players have also been confirmed, with prop Luke Thomas and centre Arron Lindop putting pen-to-paper.
Wales international Thomas, 21, has signed a three-year extension with the option for a further year while Warrington-born teenager Lindop, who impressed for the academy side during 2023, has signed a four-year first-team contract which also includes a club option to extend by a further year.
All three are set to feature in next week’s pre-season friendly against Widnes Vikings, which takes place at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday, January 26.
“We’ve been able to add Max to our squad for 2024. His attitude since joining us in pre-season has been up to our standard and he’s a valued addition to our pack,” head coach Sam Burgess said of his new signing, who will wear squad number 34.
On the new contracts, Burgess continued: “Thommo is another great player with a great attitude and has lots more growth in him.
“Securing him on a long-term contract is fantastic for our club.
“Arron is a promising young player from our own academy system. We value what he brings and look forward to seeing his progression over the next few years.”
Wood left Wigan at the end of 2023 without having made a first-team appearance but he did play a key role in the club’s winning of the Reserves competition having played his junior rugby league with Rochdale Mayfield.
Former Latchford Albion junior Thomas made his first-team debut for The Wire in 2022 and has gone on to make a further five senior appearances for the club.
He was also capped by Wales for the first time in 2022 during their mid-season Test against France and was a late call-up to their Rugby League World Cup squad later that year but did not make an appearance.
Ex-Bridgewater High School pupil Lindop, 17, is highly regarded within the club and shone brightly during 2023, scoring 16 tries in just 13 appearances for the youth and reserve teams.
