SUPER League matches are set to be shown live on the BBC for the next three years.
The Daily Mail have reported that the corporation have agreed to broadcast at least 12 matches a year on BBC Two, with more to be shown on BBC Iplayer.
It is a similar arrangement to the one agreed with Channel Four for the past two seasons and although they were keen to continue their coverage, which had become popular with supporters, they were outbid for the rights by the BBC.
While Challenge Cup matches have been and will continue to be a feature on the BBC, they have not broadcast live matches from league competition since the 1990s.
Games on free-to-air television look set to be played on Saturday evenings – a change from the Saturday lunchtime kick offs Channel Four used to show.
2024 will be a first for Super League in that every match will be shown live either on Sky Sports channels or their online platforms, but now it looks set to be confirmed that a handful are being made available for terrestrial viewers.
