IF prop Zane Musgrove joins Warrington Wolves as expected for next year, it would appear to complete their overseas recruitment for 2024.
The Samoa international – a former teammate of incoming head coach Sam Burgess while at South Sydney Rabbitohs – is widely expected to join The Wire having been granted an early release from his contract at St George Illawarra Dragons.
Musgrove, 27, would become the third NRL player to join for 2024 after Newcastle Knights back rower Lachlan Fitzgibbon and Dolphins outside back Rodrick Tai. Centre Wesley Bruines will join from St Helens, with hooker Brad Dwyer’s return from Hull FC also set to be confirmed.
And as things stand, Musgrove would take the number of overseas players in their squad up to the maximum number allowed.
Warrington Wolves overseas quota for 2024
Super League clubs are currently allowed to have seven overseas players in their squads and at the moment, Warrington are using six spaces for Matt Dufty, Peter Mata’utia, Josh Drinkwater, Paul Vaughan, Sam Kasiano and Tom Mikaele.
Josh McGuire also took up a spot until his departure from the club was confirmed in June.
Mata’utia and Mikaele are leaving the club at the end of the season, with Fitzgibbon and Tai to take their spots on the quota.
If Musgrove does arrive, it means Warrington would have to move an overseas player on if they are to bring another in.
