BEN Currie has become the latest player to commit his long-term future to Warrington Wolves.

The second rower, who is currently in his Testimonial season, was in the final year of his contract but has now penned a three-year extension.

It means the 28-year-old England international is contracted to the club until November 2026 after he joined the likes of George Williams, Danny Walker and Matty Ashton in penning long-term deals.

And the academy graduate who made his first-team debut back in 2012 says his priority was always to remain at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

With 245 appearances and 91 tries to his name in the primrose and blue, the path is clear for him to become a one-club man.

“I’m over the moon to be staying at the club,” he said.

“I knew I was coming into the last year of my contract and my intention was to stay if the club came in with an offer, which I’m grateful they did.

“My family and I are happy and settled here and to be a one-club man is a long-term ambition for me.”

Currie is one of four players to have started all 16 of The Wire’s games this season, with the others being his left-edge colleagues Ashton, Williams and Stefan Ratchford.

He believes that kind of continuity has helped him develop his performances as he becomes more of an influential figure within the squad.

“We’ve had consistency as a left edge this year which has helped my own form when you’re used to playing with the same players either side of you,” he said.

“I feel like I’m getting back fit, fast and strong and I’m really enjoying myself out there.

“I’m only 28 but I look around the squad and I’m one of the senior boys now.

“There’s a lot of eyes looking up to me so I need to be setting an example and that leadership aspect is one I enjoy and want to keep growing.”

Head coach Daryl Powell said Currie had been “a special player” for Warrington over the years and expressed his excitement about continuing to work with him.

“Ben’s been an outstanding servant to the club and is currently celebrating his Testimonial year,” he said.

“He’s been a special player for Warrington over the years and it’s good to see him commit his future to the club.

“I still think there’s areas he can improve on and I’m looking forward to working with him to drive that over the coming years.”
