FORMER Warrington Wolves man Gary Wheeler has announced his immediate retirement from rugby league.
The utility back’s time in the sport was ravaged by injury, with his latest setback forcing him to hang up his boots aged 33.
Wheeler spent two seasons at The Halliwell Jones Stadium after arriving from St Helens in 2015 but was limited to just 12 appearances for the club, scoring four tries.
He went on to play for Toronto Wolfpack before spending the past two seasons with Barrow Raiders in the Championship.
“I’ve been putting it off for a while, but now it’s out of my control,” Wheeler said on Instagram.
“Injuries have played a big part in my career but unfortunately this one can’t be healed with another operation.
“I’ve had an amazing career despite all the setbacks and adversity. I’ve met some amazing people along the way and seen the world doing it.”
