JUST over 5,500 supporters turned out to watch Warrington Wolves’ first hit-out of the campaign on Saturday evening.
They watched their side celebrate Ben Currie’s Testimonial by beating Leigh Leopards 22-10 to get 2023 off to the right kind of start.
It was not all rosey for The Wire, with new signing Josh McGuire being sent off late on while another new addition in Gil Dudson suffered a broken hand, but they were able to see off their neighbours.
Here is some of what supporters have been saying on social media post-match…
Warrington Guardian Facebook pages
Mike Davies: Leigh had a good start and kept us pinned back for the 1st 20 mins but we grew into the game and had some good spells in the second half. Some promising signs, but some concerning injuries.
Kylos Croft: Thought Vaughn was solid, good minutes and good yards! Promising signs. Wasn’t too convinced with ratch! Wasn’t great down that left edge.
Darran Wtid Catterall: Roll on week on Thursday
Ric Mcloughlin: Don't know the reason for the red card, I just hope the disciplinary council of elders throw the book at him and enforce a long ban. Don't even know who got sent off, but that's not the point.
Dan Thompson: Signs of progress
Gd run out, played well second half, and well done @BenoCurrie on getting his try 👏 #wire

Lots of work to do but I thought Danny Walker and Daryl Clark looked pretty sharp out of dummy half; hopefully Daryl Powell starts utilising them at the same time.

Great result for Ben Currie but still think we are gonna struggle this season. We now have a big pack which will help Williams but apart from him and Dufty were does our threats come from in the backs
