HAVE we had the clearest indication yet that George Williams will be England’s first-choice half-back for the Rugby League World Cup?
The Warrington Wolves man has been handed the squad number seven – the same number he wore for The Wire this year – as the host nation confirmed their squad numbers ahead of their opening fixture against Samoa on Saturday.
If the numbers are anything to go by, it looks as though Williams could line up alongside St Helens’ Jack Welsby, who will wear the number six throughout the tournament.
Salford Red Devils scrum-half Marc Sneyd – the other recognised half-back in the squad – will wear number 21.
Head coach Shaun Wane will reveal his squad for the Group A clash at Newcastle’s St James’ Park tomorrow.
