JOSH Charnley’s time with Warrington Wolves is officially at an end.

The Wire have confirmed the winger has been released from the remainder of his contract to join Championship side Leigh Centurions.

The deal is a loan until the end of the season, when Charnley has agreed a two-year contract at Leigh Sports Village.

The prospect of a mid-season release has been on the cards for Charnley, whose deal was due to expire in November, after head coach Daryl Powell confirmed he was not in his plans for 2023.

He has sat out the last five games entirely, with his last Wire appearance being during the 40-22 defeat to former club Wigan Warriors almost two months ago.

Despite the winger touching down eight times this season, Powell has preferred to give youngsters Connor Wrench and Josh Thewlis the chance to stake a claim for a first-team spot.

Charnley leaves The Halliwell Jones Stadium having scored 69 tries in 108 appearances for the club since joining from rugby union side Sale Sharks in 2018.

He helped the club lift the Challenge Cup in 2019 and featured in losing efforts in both major finals the previous year.
