OLIVER Holmes' appeal against his suspension has been rejected - and his ban extended.

On Monday, the Warrington Wolves second rower was handed a Grade B penalty notice, which carries a one-match suspension, following his yellow card at Leeds Rhinos on Saturday.

The Wire lodged an appeal but at an Operational Rules Tribunal this evening, the Grade B charge was upheld.

Furthermore, the appeal was deemed frivolous and a further game has been added to the initial ban.

Holmes, who has also been fined £500, will now miss Thursday's clash with former club Castleford Tigers and the following week's trip to Toulouse Olympique.

Holmes was sent to the sin bin for a high tackle on James Donaldson early in the second half at Headingley.

The tackle was deemed reckless by the Match Review Panel and while Holmes was happy to plead guilty to a careless tackle charge, the tribunal was satisfied with the initial grading.

Ben Currie was also charged for his tackle on Rhinos winger David Fusitu'a that left the Tonga international knocked out, but his high tackle charge is rated at Grade A and thus he is clear to face the Tigers.

In terms of other injuries, Powell confirmed that, aside from Daryl Clark, there were no fresh concerns emerging from Saturday's season-opening 22-20 victory.

He also provided a brief update on the progress of centre Toby King and skipper Jack Hughes, who are currently sidelined with knee and wrist injuries respectively.

"At this stage, I’m not 100 per cent certain," he said.

"Toby King will potentially be back available but Jack Hughes is probably another week away."

Hooker Clark was already ruled out under concussion protocol having failed an in-game head test at Headingley.
