DANNY Walker will be staying with his hometown club for at least another year.
Warrington Wolves have confirmed the hooker – who celebrates his 22nd birthday today – has penned a new 12-month extension to his contract with the club.
Walker was one of a raft of first-team players in the final year of their deals but he is now tied to the club until November 2022.
The former Crosfields and Rylands Sharks junior has made 39 appearances for the club since joining from Widnes Vikings in 2019, crossing for 12 tries – the latest coming against Leigh Centurions on Thursday.
“I’m made up to have signed a new deal with the club," the Warringtonian dummy-half said.
“It’s been a really enjoyable last three years. There’s been plenty of ups and downs but now I’m looking forward to the next 12 months of hopefully plenty more ups.
“I just want to keep building game by game and see where the future takes me.
"I want to get as many minutes as possible and keep trying to impress every time I get out there while enjoying my rugby which is the main thing.
“I come down to the stadium with 4,000 fans at the minute and I probably know half of them!
"It means a lot to represent my hometown club and it was something I always wanted to do.
"Next year will be my fourth year of doing that so it’s exciting times ahead.”
Walker's fourth year at the club will see him play under a new head coach as Daryl Powell takes over the reigns.
He may be leaving the club at season's end, but outgoing head coach Steve Price says fans can be excited at the retention of one of their own.
“It’s exciting news for the club to re-sign Danny. He’s a local junior who I know loves representing his hometown club," he said.
“Ever since joining his performances and attitude have been first class and it’s been great to see his game develop.
"He adds great value to the playing group and is a tough guy to go with it.
“He’s been in some really good form of late and there’s plenty more to come from him."
