WARRINGTON Wolves’ 2024 season has come to a heartbreaking end.

In a tight and tense Super League semi-final against Hull KR, they were edged out by a Robins side who reach the Grand Final for the first time.

In the end, the game finished with the sides scoring twice each, with one made conversion from Mikey Lewis proving decisive.

The Wire had come from 10-0 down at half time, with Matty Ashton hauling them back into the contest.

After he had powered over from dummy-half, the winger flew over in the left corner to give Warrington a chance to restore parity.

However, Josh Thewlis was unable to convert either try and despite piling on the pressure in the final quarter, they could not breach the Rovers defence again.

There had been a moment of controversy just before the break, with referee Liam Moore sending up a Joe Burgess burrow-over effort from dummy-half to video referee Jack Smith as a try on-field.

Smith then ruled he had no sufficient evidence to overturn the live call and a try was awarded, sparking fury among Wire players and supporters.

James Batchelor had earlier powered over for the hosts, who will now face either Wigan Warriors or Leigh Leopards in next week’s Old Trafford showpiece.
