WARRINGTON Wolves emphatically ended the long unbeaten home record of neighbours Wigan Warriors to make another huge statement.

The Wire had not beaten the Cherry and Whites since September 2021 – a run stretching back seven matches – and lost the Challenge Cup Final to Matt Peet’s side last month, but delivered a stunning helping of revenge to become the first visiting side since Leeds Rhinos back in May 2023 to leave the Brick Community Stadium victorious.

Arron Lindop – playing in his natural position of centre – sparkled with two tries, with Matty Ashton also bagging a brace including a length-of-the-field interception just before half time.

Josh Thewlis scored a similar intercept before Rodrick Tai's late score put a cap on the victory and delighted the travelling hordes after Lindop and Ashton’s second tries had seen them cement and extend their 14-point half-time lead.

Lindop, Ashton and Adam Holroyd had crossed before the break, with Wigan’s sole riposte coming courtesy of Liam Marshall.

Warrington finished the game with 12 men after Matt Dufty was sin-binned for a tip tackle on Marshall, but the game was long since won.
