ARMANI Sharrock hopes a humbling loss at St Helens will be the catalyst for better times ahead for Warrington Wolves Women.
It is now three Betfred Women’s Super League defeats in a row for The Wire, who were beaten 82-0 and also lost winger Rebecca Nixon to a worrying-looking neck injury.
Thankfully, Nixon has been cleared of serious damage to her neck having been stretchered from the field following a crusher tackle that was not spotted by the referee.
The home side ran in 15 unanswered tries, but Sharrock believes her young side will learn and grow from the experience.
“It’s disappointing but you learn a lot from days like today,” she said.
“We need to have a bit more intent and desire. Saints played some good stuff today but a lot of it was on the front foot through effort.
“It’s an area we need to improve on and hopefully today is that catalyst for moving forward.”
The match also marked the 50th Warrington appearances of both hooker Ellie Jelves and winger Abi Johnston, and Sharrock was keen to pay tribute to both.
“It’s great to have players around the club for so long,” she said.
“In the women’s game, 50 appearances is hard to come by but they have turned up season after season, week after week for us.
“They gave a good account of themselves out there today and we are really proud of them achieving that milestone.
“But we have finished the game with a lot of broken bodies and no bench.”
With three games of their season remaining, The Wire sit sixth in the BWSL table.
Their next game sees defending champions York Valkyrie visit Victoria Park for what will be the final home fixture of the year on Sunday, August 4, with trips to Barrow Raiders (August 10) and Wigan Warriors (September 1) to follow.
