WARRINGTON Wolves’ winning run was brought to an end at Salford Red Devils in Round Nine.
A late penalty try awarded for Danny Walker taking out Ryan Brierley as he chased Nene Macdonald’s kick proved pivotal in a game marred by a serious-looking injury to Wire half-back Leon Hayes.
The young scrum-half was stretchered off the field with a suspected broken ankle during the second half with his side leading 12-11 after Stefan Ratchford’s penalty had nudged the visitors ahead.
Marc Sneyd’s first-half drop goal had given Salford a half time lead after the sides had traded two tries each.
James Harrison and George Williams put Wire ahead after Tim Lafai’s opener, but Joe Mellor’s snipe from dummy-half levelled the scores.
