WARRINGTON Town will play their first Liverpool Senior Cup tie in 14 years this evening as they bid for a distraction from their stuttering league form.

And the club are hinting that their team for this evening’s clash with Southport could well include a new signing.

Their next three games are all in cup competitions, the first two of which are against the same opponent in Southport – Town play host to the Sandgrounders in the county cup this evening before travelling to Haig Avenue in the FA Trophy on Saturday.

And tonight will see Cantilever Park host its first Liverpool Senior Cup tie since October 2010, when they were beaten on penalties by Skelmersdale United following a 2-2 draw.

The game is set to see several of the club’s younger players given the opportunity to shine on a bigger stage alongside more established first-team players.

Manager Paul Carden confirmed a team that blends youth with experience will take to the field as they bid to end a run of three matches without scoring a goal.

"Tuesday will be an opportunity for some lads to get some important game time, some to maintain their game time and a few of the younger lads to be involved as well," he said following Saturday's 1-0 loss to Alfreton Town.

"It doesn't matter what competition we're playing in, you want to win.

"We need to get into a habit and mindset where we want to attack and we want to score goals.

"We need to tweak things a little bit, to try and give us a platform where we can score goals without being wide open."
