WARRINGTON Athletics Club’s Brandon Quinton made his England international debut in Italy.
Running for the under 23s team in the Castles 10K road race in Trieste, Quinton finished 19th in 32mins 34secs and was a non-counting member of the England team that took the bronze medals in the team race.
He would have needed to be in the race’s top 11, beating 32mins 03secs to have achieved one of the top-three positions for England.
Meanwhile, master athlete Steve Watmough won a medal in the Valencia Ciudad del Running event in Spain, where the half marathon is claimed to be the fastest course in the world.
Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha won the race in a world record 57mins 30secs, with Watmough also gutting onto the podium as the first to finish in the over 60s age group in 1hr 19mins 49secs which placed him 1,216th overall.
Seven of Warrington Athletics Club’s younger athletes made the journey to Graves Park in Sheffield for the North of England Cross Country Relays, with a team bronze being secured.
In the under 11s boys race, Alex Farrell took the first leg and in a close-fought finish with five seconds covering the first five places he handed over in fifth with 5mins 15secs which proved to be seventh fastest overall.
Alfie Furnival took over for the second stage and moved the team into the bronze medal position with 5mins 25secs which was 17th equal fastest in the race.
On the final stage Sebastian Hughes brought the team home with 5mins 19secs (11th equal fastest) for the bronze medals.
In the under 11s girls race, Emilia Gandy went out first and recorded the 10th fastest time of the race, handing over in sixth with 5mins 44secs.
Ettie Rashud took over and dropped back to 12th with 6mins 25secs.
Ivy Davidson took over for the final stage and ran excellently with the 13th fastest time of 5mins 50secs to leave the team in seventh spot.
In the under 13s girls race, Grace Rashud ran in an incomplete team on the first stage finishing 27th in 6mins 40secs.
Master athlete Louise Blizzard won the women’s over 45s age group in the hilly Macclesfield Half Marathon when she clocked 1hr 32mins 04secs to finish 41st overall.
