LYMM scored 17 points without reply in the second half to make it eight wins from eight in National League 2 North.

The table toppers came from 18-7 behind at Hull to grind out another five league points on the road against an abrasive, physical and powerful squad.

A characteristic of this maturing group is their ability to work out how to win games and to have the patience to execute plans, which could be crucial in their next outing when second-placed Leeds Tykes visit Crouchley Lane in an eagerly anticipated clash on Saturday, November 9, kick-off 2.30pm.

Lymm director of rugby Adam Fletcher said: “Hull were great in the first half and probably caught us napping.

“Half-time gave us the opportunity to regroup and lay out the plan for the second half.

“The boys then went out and did exactly what the coaches had asked.

“I was especially proud how the forwards played – there were some magnificent performances.”

He added: “Eight from eight is pretty special but we want nine from nine.

“The boys will rest up this week before putting everything into the Leeds week.”

Lymm are one of only two of the 56 National League teams to have registered 40 points from a possible 40 over the opening eight-week period – a remarkable performance, even more commendable as five of those have been away from Crouchley Lane.

Hull soaked up some early Lymm pressure and established an 8-0 lead with their former professional rugby league centre Bureta Faraimo to the fore.

Lymm came right back and although there was a near miss from a catch and drive, a second attempt proved more rewarding when Oli Higginson splintered from the main drive to score a couple of metres in from the left-hand touchline. Tom Shard added the conversion.

A Hull penalty and converted try as they had the best of the rest of the half left Lymm with work to do, especially turning visits into Hull’s 22 into points as that had let them down in the opening period.

It soon became apparent that a different Lymm team had taken the field in the second half and, as a consequence, the majority of the second period was played out in Hull territory – but it was still an arm wrestle to convert the pressure into points.

Tries from Paddy Jennings (54mins), Hadland (62mins) and Matty Hand (72mins) finally rewarded the Lymm effort.
