NETBALL:

PENKETH Panthers Netball Club are celebrating one major award and could go one better on Saturday and achieve national acclaim.

The club, ran by a dedicated team of volunteers – including the coaches and committee members – out of Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub, were crowned England Netball’s north west community club of the year for 2024 at an event in Liverpool.

As a result, they will be heading to the governing body’s national awards ceremony in Solihull tomorrow.

ROWING:

WARRINGTON Rowing Club tasted success in the Chester Long Distance Sculls 5K hosted by Royal Chester Rowing Club on the River Dee.

Fourteen of the club’s crews participated, with victories being claimed in four divisions.

Winning crews:

Junior under 17 single scull: Adam Pritchard

Womens double sculls: Ella Stanhope and Maddie Jones

Junior under 17 single scull: Lucy Fontana

Junior under 16 double sculls: Jasmine Dunne and Lily Colebrook

ATHLETICS:

WARRINGTON Athletics Club pair Louise Blizzard and Jack Pilkington achieved monster success in the Loch Ness Marathon, incorporating the British Police Championships.

Representing Cheshire Police, Pilkington finished 10th with a new personal best 2hrs 37mins 58secs - improving his previous best by nearly six-and-a-half minutes – placing him third in the Police Championships.

Along with Rob Grantham (third overall, first Police) in 2:33.52 and Gareth Kerr in 3:31.15 Cheshire won the men’s team event one second ahead of Scotland.

Blizzard finished in 171st place overall in 3:14.20, placing her 12th woman, sixth woman over 40 and fourth in the Police Championships.

Along with Pilkington and Grantham, they won the mixed team event more than 24 minutes better than Scotland.
