IN-FORM golfer Phil Archer is keeping himself ticking over ahead of his next shot on the Legends Tour.
The 52-year-old Poulton Park professional secured his three best results of the 2024 tour during September which should keep his confidence sky high ahead of tackling the Sergio Melpignano Senior Italian Open at San Domenico Golf Club in Puglia from October 24 to 26.
Last time out he finished second for the third year in a row in the WINSTONgolf Senior Open at Vorbeck in Germany, losing the decisive play-off with eventual Englishman winner Van Phillips and series leader Adilson Da Silva at the fourth extra hole.
That was after all three men had finished 12 under par, with Archer scoring 69, 67, 68 in his three rounds.
In the previous event, the European Legends Cup at Golf Almerimar in Andalucia, Spain, Archer was joint third with his rounds of 68, 70, 71 for seven under par, finishing two strokes behind Brazilian winner Da Silva and England’s Peter Baker, who was runner-up after another play-off.
At the start of the month, Archer showed signs of what was to come when he finished tied ninth on nine under par with his 71, 69, 67 in Legends Open de France at La Forêt Course in Le Touquet Golf Resort in France.
Since then, Archer has tasted success in a Manchester and District Golf Association Winter Series competition at Hazel Grove.
He posted 40 to share top spot in the individual pro section with Dave Green, four more than Poulton Park’s Alex Pritchard.
And Archer teamed up with Leigh’s Mark Pasquill to amass 45 and take over top spot in the pro am section.
The former Birchwood pro will have his sights on another strong performance in Italy later this month.
With four tournaments to go this year, he is ranked 16th in the order of merit.
Since joining the Legends Tour in 2022, he has been one of the most consistent players in the field and has now amassed 13 top-10 finishes.
